Your first part,
step by step.
From a scan to a checked Fusion model, with your AI assistant doing the building and you making the decisions.
MeshWright connects your AI app to Autodesk Fusion. You add a scan, create a job, and continue in your connected harness. It rebuilds the part in Fusion and checks the result. You decide whether it meets your needs.
- Add a scan
- Continue in your harness
- Build in Fusion
- Check and save
Your job is ready to start. Open it in Jobs and choose Continue in Harness to begin building.
1 Set up MeshWright
You will use three windows: MeshWright to manage the project, your AI app to give instructions, and Fusion to see and edit the model.
Before you begin
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC, 64-bit, with Autodesk Fusion installed.
- An active MeshWright licence and access to its account email. Protected operations, including starting work and opening NeuroVault, require an internet connection to the MeshWright licence service. Saved job files remain on your machine.
- A supported AI app, such as Codex or Claude, with working access to its model.
- A scan you know the size of. Start with a simple part rather than your most complex project.
- Download and install. Open your account and choose Download for Windows. If the installer is not listed, use Request Windows installer. Run the supplied installer.
- Activate this PC. Open MeshWright from its shortcut. Its dashboard opens in your browser. Copy your licence key from your account, open Status in the dashboard, and select Activate this machine.
- Open Fusion and enable the add-in. In Fusion, open Utilities → Add-Ins → Scripts and Add-Ins → Add-Ins. Select MeshWright, enable Run on Startup, and choose Run. If Fusion was open during installation, restart it first. Autodesk's add-in instructions show where to find these controls.
You should see: an active licence and a connected Fusion session on the dashboard's Status page.
Signing in to the website and activating this PC are separate steps. Keep your licence key private.
2 Connect your AI assistant
The dashboard calls AI apps Harnesses. This is where you connect the app you actually chat with.
- Install and sign in to your chosen AI app, if you have not already.
- Open Harnesses in MeshWright. Find your AI app and choose Register.
- Restart or reconnect the AI app so it can load the MeshWright tools.
- In that app, send the connection check below.
Use the MeshWright tools to check your connection to Fusion. Tell me whether Fusion is connected and which document is open. Do not change the model.
You should see: the assistant actually checks the connection and reports the Fusion document. A reply saying “I can help” is not a connection check.
The connected AI app does the reconstruction. The dashboard's optional lesson model settings are for lesson extraction. Select your default Harness and enable Automatically start when ready to launch new ready jobs. Claude Code and Codex have built-in launch adapters; other apps need a compatible local adapter. Each row shows availability.
If your app is missing or only shows Write config, check that it is installed. Start with the connection troubleshooting steps rather than entering unrelated API keys.
3 Add your scan
- Open Scans. Set Source units to the units used by your scanner or exported file.
- Drop an STL, OBJ, PLY or 3MF onto the upload area, or click it to choose a file. The maximum upload is 512 MB per file.
- Wait for analysis. Read any warning on the scan card before continuing.
- Compare the displayed size with a dimension you know. For example, if you know the part is about 50 mm long, it should not appear to be 500 mm long.
You should see: a ready scan card with a sensible size. If it needs attention, read the warning and resolve it before preparing a job.
Files without unit information default to millimetres. If the size is wrong, import again with the correct units and create a new job. Do not silently resize the saved reference halfway through a job.
Do I need to change “Accuracy target for new jobs”?
For your first part, keep Faithful scan reconstruction. This asks for a model that follows the scan. Use an engineer-specified change or an approved reference only when you understand and approve that different target. Critical holes and dimensions may need independent measurement. There is no single tolerance that is right for every part.
4 Give your assistant the job
- On the scan card, choose Prepare Job, then Create Job.
- Open the saved job in Jobs or Library. With automatic start enabled, its harness session starts as soon as the job is ready. Otherwise choose Continue in Harness.
- If your app has no launch adapter, select an available harness in Harnesses before continuing.
- Keep Fusion available and let the assistant work in the job's dedicated document. Answer questions about the shape or your requirements.
Follow these saved MeshWright instructions for this job. Check your Fusion connection first. Rebuild the part, verify it, and tell me what passed, what needs attention, and where the files were saved. Ask me if an important dimension or design choice is unclear.
You should see: the assistant begins the same saved job in Fusion. The Ghost Mesh is the scan displayed as a reference; the assistant builds the new model beside that reference in the job document.
The job shows the session state, progress and recent output. Jobs queue while another dispatched build owns Fusion. Use Stop session to stop the agent; an already submitted Fusion operation may still finish. Inspect Fusion before confirming it is idle and releasing a stopped or interrupted session. Avoid editing the same model while the assistant is building it.
5 Check the result and save it
Ask the assistant to run MeshWright's verification and explain the result. Do not stop at a screenshot or a message saying the shape is finished.
- Shape: compare several views. Are holes, recesses and important surfaces present?
- Size: check the overall dimensions and any critical measurements.
- Checks: read Native verification. What passed, failed or still needs a separate measurement?
- Editability: ask which dimensions and features can be changed. A Fusion file does not guarantee every part is fully adjustable.
- Files: confirm the native Fusion file and STEP file were saved.
“Largest sampled deviation” is the biggest surface difference found among the points checked. The check samples 30,000 points in each direction; it does not check every possible point or certify exact equality. If no tolerance was declared, do not assume a specific tolerance passed.
If you are satisfied with the checked result, choose Accept. If it does not meet your needs, choose Reject and tell your assistant what must change. Acceptance records your judgement; it does not change the model.
Keep editing in Fusion
Download result.f3d. This keeps the saved Fusion design and its available editing history.
Use another CAD tool
Download result.step. This exchanges the shape; it does not preserve Fusion's full feature history.
For a part that must fit or be manufactured, check its required dimensions and intended use before relying on it.
Continue later or make a correction
Return to Jobs or Library and open the same job. Reconnect your AI app if needed, then choose Continue in Harness. Review the job's current state before continuing.
Continue this MeshWright job from its current state. Inspect what has already been built before repeating any operation. Preserve the existing work and tell me what remains.
For a correction, describe the exact problem and include confirmed dimensions with units. Say whether the change intentionally differs from the original scan. Ask the assistant to save and verify again, then review the new result. Previous measurements do not verify newly edited geometry.
What do the job states mean?
- Ready to continue
- The job is prepared. Automatic start dispatches new ready jobs when enabled; existing jobs have a Continue in Harness control.
- Working
- The job has begun. Check the AI conversation and Fusion for current activity.
- Verifying
- The saved model is being checked.
- Needs correction / needs_correction
- A check or required measurement still needs attention. Read the reported failures.
- Done
- The job's checks completed without recorded failures. Your review is still needed.
- Cancelled or failed
- Read the explanation before starting again. A stopped job may require a new job.
What about old models and NeuroVault?
Historical models stay in the Library, but their old automatic-engine controls are not the workflow for new jobs. NeuroVault stores reusable lessons and their evidence. New lesson proposals are provisional until reviewed; accepting a model does not automatically approve every lesson. Available learning features depend on your licence.
Find your next step
Start with what you see. Most setup problems can be narrowed down without changing a model.
Fusion is not connected
Open Fusion, confirm the MeshWright add-in is running, and recheck Status. If Fusion was open during installation, restart it. Then ask your AI app to check the connection again.
My assistant cannot find MeshWright
In Harnesses, confirm the app you use is registered. Reconnect or restart that AI app. Ask it to use the MeshWright tools to check Fusion. Registration changes may not appear in an already-open conversation until the tools reconnect.
The scan is the wrong size
Check Source units against the file's export settings and a known dimension. Re-import with the correct units, then prepare a new job. A unitless file is treated as millimetres by default.
My job is ready, but no model appears
Open the job and read Harness session. Check that the default harness has an available adapter and automatic start is enabled, or choose Continue in Harness. For an unsupported host, select an available harness in Harnesses. Read errors or questions before explicitly continuing a failed session.
An operation timed out or progress stopped
Ask the assistant to check the same job and operation status before repeating anything. A timeout does not prove an operation failed, and repeating it blindly can duplicate geometry.
Verification says the result needs correction
Read the failed check with your assistant. Correct the model or obtain the missing independent measurement, then verify again. Do not treat a high overlap score as a substitute for a required dimension.
I cannot activate this PC
Check that you signed in with the licence email and copied the correct key. Your account lists activated PCs; deactivating a PC you no longer use frees its seat. If you still cannot activate, send support the exact error, without your licence key.
Still stuck?
Tell us the step you reached, your MeshWright version, the AI app you use, and the exact error. A screenshot can help; hide licence keys, private project details and the dashboard's access URL.
Email MeshWright supportYour files and AI connection
Your scan library and saved job files are stored on your PC. Your connected AI app may send instructions, images or other job information to its model provider. Local storage does not mean every AI request stays on your PC; check the settings of the AI app you use.
MeshWright licence activation sends the licence key and machine details. Optional usage reports and optional lesson-text sharing are separate settings and are off by default. AI-provider usage is separate from your MeshWright licence. Optional lesson extraction can also use the model configured in the dashboard.
Keep copies of important saved designs. If you need help backing up the complete library, ask support about the existing backup command. There is no dashboard Backup button in this workflow.
